They moved seamlessly out of my way like I was an opposing force, flowing back and making my walk far more pleasant. The mass of howling, shoving, clawing beasts parted as I silently made my way through the valley toward the jagged slash of shimmering air. Which meant I wasn’t overly happy with all these fucking things using my tear to clamber their way through now. I’d been using this tear between our worlds-this largely secret, unknown rip in our world fabric-for almost longer than I could remember. I’d been visiting this other world for eons, destroying the parasites that slipped through and infected humanity. Of course, I had been going through for millennia. The creatures that shoved and bit and clawed their way were frantic in their desperation to get through, to flood into a new place where the scent of hot blood was thick and a glut of living things waited. The teeming mass in front of me writhed like a beast with a thousand legs.
